We welcome pitches that examine how ideas of balance take shape across cultures, places and shared patterns of life. A strong contribution is specific, well-framed and careful about the difference between one example and a universal claim.
What to pitch
Propose an original essay or explainer about cultural views, time and rhythm, work and rest, place and pace, or shared life. We are especially interested in a clear question, a distinct angle and an explanation of why the subject matters to a general reader.
What makes a strong proposal
Send a brief summary of the central idea, the points you would explore and the kind of sources or material that would support it. Explain the cultural or geographic scope, note any limits to the argument, and say whether the work has appeared elsewhere. Avoid pitches that turn a single practice into a rule for everyone.
How to send it
Submit your proposal through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please do not send a complete article unless requested. A submission is not a promise of publication, and we will consider whether the idea fits the publication and its editorial standards.
Balance depends on the frame
A rhythm that fits one person or place may not fit another. We look at the context behind ideas of balance, without turning them into universal prescriptions.
